I seem to recall reading that Amazon.com has a special deal with publishers, where they get books before the official release date such that they can be delivered to pre-paid customers “on the day of release.” There was apparently an incident where Amazon.com goofed, and delivered a book /before/ it’s official release date.

In any case, it’s great that we live in a world where such things are possible.
