From those descriptions it sounds like it would be a good idea to have the option of TZFM or non-TZFM for versatility in programming “not-quite-tuned” metal percussion, similar to gongs etc, as well as the more “pure” sounds like say a marimba.
A DX7’s metallic percussion can often be a little sterile or polite compared to a patch based on the cross-mod capabilities of say a  P5, a JP-8, or even a JX3P  (although it will certainly track more accurately across the keyboard - that’s not always important).
