16kV Gun is an automotive spec… Depending on how you set up things you'd need 
to absorb up to 40A of ESD current with a substantial energy content.  Unless 
you go all in and get automotive qualified transceivers you are unlikely to 
meet the spec with a single protective element.  Now if you've managed to 
protect that signal you'd be left wondering what to do with the rest of the 
system.  An ESD pulse isn't easily told where to go.
