Hi, I was trying to revisit the original circuits posted in this thread by Dave Dixon but seems I can’t see the images. Is there a way to see them?

Although stereo salesmen were fond of telling you that you only need one subwoofer since we're directionally deaf at low frequencies, that's actually not a limitation of the human brain (see above). What is true is that pan-pot based "multi-mono" mixing produces a sound field that has no directional information in the low frequencies. A binaural recording - or a modern mix that uses inter channel delays - does not have this limitation (so you'll need multiple subwoofers).

This is valid for both recordings made, and sound replayed, in rooms. Perhaps it's more relevant to talk about "intended information" rather than "stereo content" or "directional sound" in the bass region. Often there is no intended directional information there, so a low-frequency mono signal is appropriate even if the recording had something else.
