I think the best bet would be to use another FET that doesn’t come from the dark ages. Try the 2N7000 or BS170 which cost a few cents each. I don’t know the schematic of that mixer but I can’t believe it relies on a parameter so unique to the 2N3822. And if it does, it’s not that good a design anyway :-)

Subject: [sdiy] Sourcing rare parts, need help
Hi !
So i'm on a new project, maybe some of you have heard of it : Fabric Astronaut Pathos mixer.
And it's the first time i'm a bit in trouble finding parts, especially its semi 2N3822.
It seems a bit hard to find, and if i can find it, its price is really different from different sellers.
So how can i be sure a seller is not a scam ?
For example, is digiPArt a good way to go ? Are there such difference from manufacturers that one can cost 71€ and the other 3€ ?
What about suppliers like "little diode", which seem to have huge stocks, but.. is this real ?
I hope i won't be too off topic, and i don't want to make a pro or cons topic, i would better learn a good way to search such rare parts without thinking i'm throwing my money away !
Thanks for any help,
Best
J.
