Shawn have you read the mixer’s Owners Manual?
I’ve used a few Mackies and their manuals are wonderful at explaining all the possibilities and pitfalls with their circuits
cheers

I guess I need to read up on balanced signals. The one question that pops out into my head right now is - What happens when an unbalanced cable is plugged in? To answer myself, I believe one side (the position on the bottom) would just stay connected to ground. Sorry again, I know I have a LOT to learn.

Obviously, I see the ground and also the ground is normalled to the two positions. The 2 positions is what is confusing me though. If it is a mono input, why is there 2 positions? Does one get grounded when a jack is inserted? Sorry, I feel like I am asking a stupid question. Thanks
