[sdiy] Any way to get two "cursors" on an LCD 2*16 screen?

Hello,
I'm putting together a sequencer based around an LCD character screen. I'm
struggling to find a way to indicate what the currently played step is as
well as edit a different step, while indicating it to the user. Ideally,
the normal running cursor would show the played step and the blinking black
tile the edited step. Is there any feature in the HD44780U controller that
can help me avoid the fuss of time multiplexing the two cursors and loading
my program?
