Option 3 : 24

**Given:**

The ratio of ages of mother and son = 7 : 3

Sum of their ages = 60

**Calculation:**

Let the ages of mother and son be a years and b years respectively.

⇒ a : b = 7 : 3

⇒ a = 7b/3

Given that a + b = 60

Putting the value of a in above equation we'll get

⇒ 7b/3 + b = 60

⇒ b = 18

⇒ a = 60 - 18 = 42

Age of mother = 42 years

Age of son = 18 years

Required difference = 42 - 18 = 24 years

**∴ The difference in their ages is 24 years**
