It's frequently the case that loan words take on a more specific meaning
in the new language, so I wouldn't use "DIY"'s meaning in German to guide
interpretation of its use in English.
Examples: "portage" in French means carrying anything, while in English
it means specifically carrying a boat from one river to another; "anime"
in Japanese means any animation, whereas in English it means specifically
animation originating from Japan and in a certain characteristic style.
