You're right, I was thinking too fast with a glass of something. Zero-cross switching is equivalent of amplitude modulation of the signal and steep edged pulse, so obviously the product will contain all the signal images shifted by all harmonics of the pulse edge. Bad idea. So then the only suitable idea is some kind of envelope. Gating a FET with RC network should give some gradual fading out, only a matter of selecting time constant. And yet another idea to make it faster for higher frequencies and slower at the low end - make two such mute citrcuits pulling down one signal line - one FET gets the signal on its drain via capacitor, and its muting RC time constant is short, so high frequrncies are muted quickly, while low end doesn't care about that little cap and carries on. Then second FET hits in, with longer time constant RC. Without any cap it clamps everything to GND. No clicking. If you want to hear what switching at zero-crossings sounds like, play the WAV file at www.teaser.fr www.teaser.fr The signal being switched is a low-frequency sine so as not to mask the artefact. On a signal with more high frequency content, the artefact would be less conspicuous. -- André Majorel www.teaser.fr www.teaser.fr ______________________________ Synth-diy mailing list Synth-diy at synth-diy.org synth-diy.org synth-diy.org
