Sure. In my experience, the presence of a multipart/alternative
HTML version is not, in itself, a problem. Some mailers do a
very poor job of creating the text part, eg stripping the
targets of links, but that is a separate issue.

That's curious because I believe that that is what synth-diy did
until a couple years ago. Some people were able to reply to
existing threads but not create new ones. Apparently, they had
mailers that sent plain text when replying to a plain text
message but otherwise defaulted to HTML.
Perhaps Rick remembers what he changed.
