For my 2p worth, I have *never* come across a drum machine that used
actual pitch shifting to retune drum sounds. They all just speed up or
slow down the sample, so lower pitched sounds play out for a little
longer.
Pitch shifting to tune the drums would make the envelope sound weird for
the pitch of the drum, and would give an un-natural and
profoundly-sounding effect.
