Sounds like you're right. According to [1], the shape of the
holes is the intersection of a disc 5.9 mm in diameter with a
horizontal band 3.3 mm tall.

For my own use, I never bothered with that and just made round
holes, large enough for the usual M2.5 screws plus slop.
