These type of sites are pretty obvious holdovers from the days of
commissioned sales forces. The sales dept is a bunch of glad-handers who
earn their keep by making personal customer calls and keeping a rolodex
full of contacts to prove to their boss that they're effective
employees. They haven't quite grokked the way the internet works yet,
and since they're in charge of the company website this ignorance is
reflected in their approach to e-commerce.
They'll go down in the same boat as Borders Books, Tower Records and
that Mom & Pop electronics shop you used to buy your resistors at before
Digi-Key came along...
