I agree with points 2 and 3.

With the CS42438 wraparound problem when using driving one input pin, I
can see why it occurs - and I imagine it would be trivially to fix it in
the logic, in addition to the bit-shift which they presumably do already
in this mode.  I think that not having this clipping built into the chip
makes this mode unusable.
