[sdiy] SMT package hell

Stuff like that has got me to the point where I assume nothing and always go
and look at data sheets. Then I at least double and a lot of the time triple
check things before I commit.

Subject: [sdiy] SMT package hell

Did you hear me scream?

I picked a part that sez its SOT-505. Okay, what is that? I look at the
datasheet which sez its the same as tssop8. Then I look up tssop8. They
do not match. then I find a sot-505-2. Also doesn't match. This really
throws generic package names out the window. As I make a custom
footprint for this part I ponder the state of the industry and the
ineffectual efforts of the gurus of standards like EIA.
