[sdiy] OT Tape play heads

What is/was the tape recorded on? Full-track mono? 2-track stereo?
4-track stereo? If you use a mono head for playback, it will play back
all the tracks as once (and in 4-track stereo, one pair of stereo
tracks will be played back backwards while the other pair plays
forward).

If you want just one thing on the tape, I suggest record it mono/full
track, but then use one channel of a quarter track head (or even an
old 8-track cartridge head) for playback. This will give more leeway
on the azimuth angle to get full treble frequency response, so it
doesn't have to be so critically close to 90 degrees.

The magnetophon demo is interesting, not just the actual product demo,
but also he's wearing an "Atlanta Synth Meat" shirt! I was at the
event last year. We have another even coming up in Atlanta in about a
month. Details on "Atlanta Synth Club" on Facebook, or I can forward
the awesome poster for the event.
