Can you explain why 24mm is too tall? Can you give some specific examples?
I don’t doubt that most people use 10mm, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only workable option.
My impression is that any height can work, so long as all of your components have a compatible height with each other. That includes pots, encoders, switches, jacks, buttons, displays, LED indicators, etc. It’s not like you can see the PCB through the front panel anyway. As long as the total depth doesn’t exceed the 41mm skiff, I don’t see how it really matters that much.
I’ve got some vertical components that are 13.99mm tall, so 10mm wouldn’t work for me unless I built a 4mm lift.
