The Intersil (now Renesas, which used to be Hitachi way back when)
HFA3046 is an RF/microwave (5.5 GHz!) version of the 3046, which (I
presume) is why it's so expensive. I'm not even sure I'd trust myself
to use it without it going into spurious microwave oscillations, even
if the transistors are well matched at DC/audio.
Hearing about the new 3280 is Really Good News.
The new LM394-equivalent supermatched pair is nice to see also, but it
would be really interesting to have a new uA726, or maybe the LM394
transistors with a similar on-chip oven (how do the 726 transistors
compare with the 394?). I wonder how many supermatched transistors
with oven control circuitry can be put in a 16-pin DIP or SOIC ...
While I'm here, does anyone other than THAT (the former DBX) make
Blackmer cell VCAs? I haven't heard of any, and I'm guessing there's a
patent in force.
