Have you looked at the Serge Triple Wave Shaper (TWS) circuit? That
achieves an approximation of saw through to sine using just 1/4 LM3900.
The Serge NTO took it a stage further - mixes a TWS and a comparator to go
through saw-sine(ish)-pulse-square.
