There are other realtime MIDI-source than keyboards. There may be 
MIDI-sources which you don't have access to (example: the keyboard of 
your co-musician). There are circumstances where you need the MIDI-Data 
for one sound generator untransposed, while you want thru-signal use 
transposed.

So: yes: you want a transpose switch
