Good fabs will automatically exclude silkscreen ink from the areas exposed by the solder mask.

My final step in pcb layout is to hide all layers except the silk and mask, then move the text around (on its own grid) to maximize legibility while avoiding places where it will be a problem. But, then there’s the times when the fab changes the font or size...
