If it's full bridge rectifier it will work either way. Shottky bridges are not that rare, and with typical current drawn by a module the drop may be significantly less 0.5V. Or as it was already mentioned - MOSFET protection. One transistor on each rail makes wonders. 50 miliohm channel resistance device in SOT23 is about $0.1 so no cost, no real estate.
