Because my front panels are bamboo ply, not aluminium — mainly
because I can lasercut them locally at extremely low cost and short
turnaround time — and having the PCB perpendicular to the panel
adds a lot of support. Most of my Eurorack cases are reasonably
deep, so the added depth presents no issues

Also the local electronics retailer (Jaycar) seems to sell Alpha 9mm
right-angle pots but no vertical pots, so in a pinch if I run out of pots
I can buy them locally
