Actually the chips themselves should be fine even in bad 80017A modules.
What seems to happen is that over time the epoxy material reacts with
the material used for the printed resistors deposited on the ceramic
substrate, causing corrosion, and this corrosion leads to noisy modules.
It should be possible to fix a module by cutting out the corroded
portion(s) and soldering SMD resistors in their place.
