I was going to suggest that these sorts of personal preferences can be set in the mailman settings for each user. However, I just looked at those options, and the auto-reply is not one of them. I'm thinking of the administrator part of mailman, where the admin does have the ability to control this.

Personally, I think it's better to err on the side of mistakes affecting fewer people, so the default going to an individual is better. The reverse would mean that it would be too easy for people who intend a private reply to accidentally send everyone on the list a copy.

In any case, my mail client does the right thing if I simply click a button. Considering the number of people affected, it's worth my time for that one extra click.

Question to the admin: Does mailman allow the admin to give each user control over this? I can't remember whether mailman sends out one identical email copy to everyone with Bcc:, or if it creates a separate message for each recipient. If the latter is an option, then perhaps individuals who prefer reply-all could have that selection. I'm just not sure whether it's technically possible.
