If you take the diode curve as approximating x squared at low values,
then I think the squaring of inputs A and B comes from the identity
(A+B) squared - (A-B) squared = 4AxB
If you are using an AD633 or other multiplier & feel that the accuracy won't
give
enough stray harmonics, just put one or both of the inputs through a
distortion
or fuzz box. No worries!
