That's exactly the sort of stuff I was thinking about. I didn't like the diode symbol in DipTrace, so I drew another one (filled in) and used it to replace the standard one. You could replace a box with a zigzag in kicad for sure, if you wanted to.

With a little bit of mucking about you can get the schematics looking how you want.
