ah, thx for pointing that out:
just looked up the Harris data sheet which only lists the CA3080 and CA3080A in the specs.
The A type has better input offset specs, The AE type is only mentioned on the first page of the data sheet. I’d expect the A type to have better temperature specs, but I can’t find a difference. So a metal can is more like a legacy thing since plastic DIPs had worse  specs back then?
