Visit http://synth-diy.org/mailman/options/synth-diy , enter
your subscription address and password and check the "Avoid
duplicate copies of messages" option. With Mailman, it's set to
"yes" by default, which prevents you from getting your own
posts.

So you get free web mail and, in exchange, Google gets reams of
private information on not only you but everyone you correspond
with. Even those who do not use Gmail because they would prefer
that Google doesn't know what they say to whom.
