[sdiy] Ethics and an Apology

Hi list,
I have been receiving some emails requesting the rom image of a famous
Roland synthesizer and I cannot in good conscience put that in the public
domain for obvious reasons, not least of which to prevent cloners from
profiting from proprietary software. Present company excepted , of course;)
But you never know, anything can happen.
It was plain and simple poor judgement to announce any such endeavour.
Second, this was just something I wanted to play with because the
opportunity arose, that's it. I have no intention of cloning anything,
except maybe for my own personal use, to learn from studying a commercial
design. And partly because of laziness, because I had a 37-note Pratt-Reed
(sp) keyboard sitting around that I have been waiting to hook up to a micro
as a basic DAC.
Besides, I just discovered that you could even read these out, something I
am sure is old news for some, if not many knowledgeable folks here. It is
quite embarrassing to have you all think I have accomplished anything
impressive here whatsoever. For my part, I apologize for the confusion as
to my intentions here. I have not, nor ever will release copyrighted images
whether as a file or eprom. And in case anybody doubts my integrity, the
only reason for ordering an eprom version of said micro, was to test my
dump was error free, as I do not own this synth, or any synth anymore
(except Jupiter-6).
In the spirit of diy, however, I will welcome discussion of this and other
software, but with discretion. One last thing, I retract my previous post
(if that is possible) asking for a rom image of another synth recently
discussed here. I prefer to do the hard work myself and learn in the
process. Besides, no magic here, it's all in the Intel Embedded Controllers
Handbook, as I have already pointed out.
p.s. I apologize to the author of the TB-303 thread for insulting their
intelligence with a truly idiotic post on a completely uneducated,
irrelevant matter, without even having read the data or understood the
nature of these so-called timing idiosyncrasies.
Going into lurking mode for a while, no doubt to the delight of many here.
Keep up the good work folks.
