[sdiy] [hp_agilent_equipment] Where to get capacitor and resistor kits?

Hi guys,
A lot of great posts in this thread.
I notice there are basically two types: ring binder (aka sample book) and
pill box (or "mouse toilet" as someone mentioned).
Here are a few questions I have.
The pill box one seems a bit sketchy to me because it means it has been
handled once, in unknown conditions, by someone who might have broken it or
not. So that's a bit of a worry for me. They're also made from non-esd-safe
material (it would be black due to included carbon).
The separate "pages" in sample book ones are not ESD safe either, but I
understand the tape the parts are in stores them safely, as long as you
don't touch the parts to the plastic sheets. As anyone knows those sheets
can create HUGE amounts of static. My guess is both tiny resistors and
capacitors can get damaged by several-kilovolt discharges but obviously I
don't have statistical experimental data to support this.
So I'm not sure what's better? What do I do?
I could also buy ESD pill boxes but those cost extra money and I'll
probably end up losing a lot/some of the parts.
Regarding parts quality. I'm not necessarily sure the parts will be as
specified, and e.g. capacitors don't necessarily mention voltage, R/C don't
mention composition, temp rating, etc. They don't mention the manufacturer.
So I'm a bit torn between just buying the sample books (they are cheap) and
hoping for the best - or spending a large chunk of my life making a huge
order to Mouser who will probably charge me quite a bit for the tiny
amounts. I dread the time I'd have to spend, but at least I'd know exactly
what I got, and that would be quite valuable in itself.
What do I do here?...
