I’m using a Texas Instruments one. It’s SO16. I hope I can make these work, because I bought a full reel of them!
Which brand are the “good ones”?

Different to the extent that I couldn't use the same components values with different manufacturer's chips. Each "4046" is essentially its own device, despite having the same part number.
