[sdiy] Roland CR-8000 drum voices

Hi Adam,

Thanks for posting this blog, and for sharing the sound examples. It is
interesting how the different sounds respond in different ways to varying
trigger pulse amplitudes. As you said in your blog, some have no variation,
some change dramatically, and some have a certain component to the sound
(like snare rattle, or tom noise) drop out below a particular amplitude.
There's definitely useful sonic variation in there from triggering the
voices in this way.

I remember our discussions about the CR8000 well. It is an interesting beat
box with a quite unique sound. The rim shot sound in particular is quite
unusual, both in its sound and the way it is created. I remember
discussions about one of the snare drum body partials sounding so quietly
that it was almost inaudible too.

Cheers,

-Richie,

Up on my blog is a little look at this thing. The quirks of the voices were
revealed once I had installed an Elby midi-to-trgger unit, that allows midi
velocity to control trigger amplitude. There are some schematic snippets and
audio examples. I must thank Richie Burnett of this list for taking the time
to explain the genius behind some of these circuits - maximum effect with
minimum parts!

Corrections of course welcome
