Lately I've been recording with the Expert Sleepers ES-6/ES-7. That'll
give you 8 channels at modular level.
I love that I can bring audio in from my modular run it through
Max/MSP, AudioMulch or VSTs and then send them back out to my modular
and do that loop a few times to create tunes. I can even record LFOs
into my DAW and then play them back. My favorite part is not needing
any hardware sequencers, I can do it all in the DAW with MIDI and save
my sequences for later projects and different patches.

I've also used regular converter boxes for 8+ audio channels, I have
two AudioFire 12 for recording up to 24 channels at a time. Just need
to pad down the input gains.
