Way more. 

I had a 24" x 24" board with 3 large fpgas each with ddr3 and an optron plus all the support hardware, and 9 high speed transport connections.

That said, 2000 pins is not much - a few 64 or 138 pin packages with supporting hardware and connectors etc will get close. As soon as you start adding memory, it rockets up the count pretty quickly.
