Last year I picked up an AmScope SE400-Z stereo microscope for $180 shipped in
the US and use it for SMD soldering with the 10x eye pieces just fine. I like
the 8" working distance, the only thing it lacks is proper light, but a ring of
12 white LEDs around the binocular head fixed that.
