scan from where I and a lot of other people that commented here would start to 
scan from: the stack of papers that you ship as electronotes.

If I was to buy the full stack, that's what I would do, find a feed scanner and 
run it all through - no OCR, just convert paper to PDF. and I assume I am not 
alone in this, in fact I trust quite a few "private" PDF versions already exist

that cannot be done. the music and the movie and ebook industry have all tried 
and failed. digital = it will be pirated.

sell paper + PDF? let people give you the money but spare them from having to 
scan it all by themselves...
