That's between David and his place of work to sort out, and would not
affect Bernie either way.  It's also not so likely as you seem to think,
that the university would object at all.  They usually take a pretty broad
view of what's a legitimate research activity as long as it doesn't cost
them money directly nor get the institution into trouble.  Provided David
wasn't charging Bernie a fee for the service.  If he *did* charge Bernie a
fee, *then* they might object!  But that would still be a beef between UBC
and David, and would not make it true that Bernie can't use his own
writings.
