[sdiy] More string synth questions

So I seem to be on a string synth/organ kick. I recently looked at the
schematics for the Roland RS-505 and saw that the notes got summed and then
passed to the filter circuits that comprised the different voicings
(strings, brass, piano). Besides saving on parts, is there any
advantage/disadvantages to doing it that way over having some simple
filters on each individual note?

Also, after rereading the Hackaday series Logic Noise, this project could
either take a turn for the weird and lo-fi or have another board for such
craziness.

Another note: The ETI String Thing Transcendent DPX 4-part article has a
small illustration that I found interesting... it takes a note and ANDs it
with the note one octave up to produce both odd and even harmonics at the
lower note's frequency since a square wave on its own only has odd
harmonics. Do you guys think that would be worth implementing?

And with all these various sounds and options, how would you suggest
switching everything? I'm already assuming a couple CD4066 per key to get a
Hammond organ style multiple-notes-on-one-keypress, but everything else
seems a little overwhelming... more 4066s or is there a better way?
