It really looks like the voice expansion was removed.
I found the installation guide for the expansion:

and it mentions switching the xtal for a low profile version and adding 
the 32 pin male header.
Both are installed in my unit.

I'm in contact with waldorf now, maybe they can tell me which parts to 
change back or if it is a problem.
I have to say, great customer support for such an old unit.
