The lines is a matrix mixer with four inputs mixed into four outputs based on touching a grid made up of springs and copper pads. The springs are inputs and the pads are outputs. 
Thanks for all the helpful comments and the discussion on pronounciation friends! Nobody mentioned I say "Aluminum" too :)
