Many performers do not want to risk having a computer on stage when the system can crash, go into an unexpected update, or otherwise mysteriously slow down and stop functioning as usual. I've seen many performers forced to alter their set list because their laptop was acting weird - like taking two minutes to load a track.

So, provided this thing doesn't have firmware bugs, it can do one very important thing that a software VST sampler cannot: run without any risk of crashing.
