Hi , I suppose it's all subjective in the end, whatever is most pleasing to the ear. And i am open to being corrupted;)

For the "thin and lifeless" bit, that's where a little stereo chorus can help , even BBD designs to cut through the mix I found. I rarely push my Jupiter-6 final VCA level past 50% and the S/N is excellent. But I use the hotter and cleaner balanced output.

. I just find all this tendency to pre/post distort and have as many oscillators in unison very unmusical. Might be fine for brash , in your face style of music however, if that's your cup of tea.

Digital biquad? Forgive my ignorance, but how would a digital implementation "fatten" the sound any differently than the traditional op-amp design?

I am certain an in-store demo will be way more impressive than an mp3 demo of factory patches played by an engineer( Most synth demos are awful, and this is not just my opinion).
