To be honest if you hunt around on eBay you can pick up decent logic
analysers for a fraction of what they cost new.  I have an Agilent
16702B frame with a single 16557D (64+4 channels at up to 500MHz
timing capture).  It can take up to 5 cards which can be interlinked
for very complex systems (and if you need more you can add extender
boxes for even more channels), or you can add scope or pattern
generator cards.  When you consider how powerful this type of kit is,
and how little it goes for on eBay (mine cost me less - with manuals,
a full set of probes, etc - than the 34-channel Intronix LogicPort I
use at work) these days its a really good time!
