The TI-99/4A home computer used a 16-bit "microprocessor" , a first for home micros. The TMS9900 (I think the brochures said it was 8/16)
I still remember when this came out, but bought the Sinclair ZX-81 instead to learn Basic programming on (The Apple ][+ 's were still out of reach for students like myself).
Ironically I ended up wiring the TI-99/4A keyboards, that were showing up in surplus stores , to the ZX-81 saving me from membrane hell.
Lots of fun.
( Except for the random crashes , when you were just about to finish typing in the last couple of lines of machine code from a magazine game listing:/)
