Geez, lighten up.

I was trying to point out  that half the fun and satisfaction can come from designing and learning something in the process, I hardly think you need to be an engineer to tackle a BJT switch ! 

Last time I checked text books are still required at school. Libraries are free last time I checked. Googling everything and 'inserting it ' into a design might get you up and running, as you say , but what "fun" is that?

It might not BE 1970, but it sure feels like it with analogs being reissued and cloned everywhere. 

Even big bushy sideburns are back - yes! (I can live w/o the polyester shirts though.. ;)
