For most part, you can ignore it. Design effort could go into more 
important paths. Back in the days, you had no choice. Then the first 
op-amps came, and they where kind of limiited so some discrete 
impeovements where needed. Modern op-amps have high impedance, low noise 
and such that their performance is well suited for most tasks.

There is some very specifica cases where limited gain of discrete may be 
of usage, but for most part I'd say it is not of general usaeg.
