[sdiy] LM386 alternative?

Although I use the LM386N-1 quite a bit I also use the TDA7052A, which is a good sounding amp with DC volume control on-board.

There are a number of small amps out now that are class D amps that may
work for you. They will probably be SMD though. You'll find them in
things like cell phones and portable devices.
