[sdiy] LM386 alternative?

Is that something we have to worry about being discontinued? I love the LM386. Some of the TDAxxxx low-wattage power amp ICs are also very popular. I prefer the 386 (in guitar stuff) because IMO it sounds better when abused than any of the TDA I tried.
